No more sickouts, ever.
Over on my personal AZ politics ‘blog, Goldwater State, I comment a bit on the TUSD sickout, and offer a recipe for reform.
It’s not the Party’s official position–the State platform is an embarrassing shambles and it’s hard to say what the Party’s official position is!–but it’s a libertarian take: school choice makes labor disputes local and gives parents the means to avoid schools with chronic labor problems.
Rumor has it that the LP will have a qualified, strong, and electable candidate for State Superintendent of Schools in 2008, someone who, unlike Tom Horne, won’t kowtow to the teachers’ union or interfere in the operation of some of the best charter schools in the nation. The candidacy hasn’t been announced, but when it happens, you’ll read about it here.
The sorts of education reforms I advocate are natural issues for a Libertarian legislative candidate. Step up in ‘08!
